World Arthritis Day

On World Arthritis Day, the department of Medicine at Dr. D. Y. Patil Medical College, Hospital, and Research Center organised a rally and health camp. The purpose was to increase awareness and provide tools to combat long-standing arthritis. Around 40 patients participated in the event and were given braces, ice packs, free medications, and patient-friendly lectures on how to cope with the stress of arthritis, maintaining a positive attitude, and exercises that can be done at home to prevent stiffness.

Dr. Mrs. Shubhangi Kanitkar (HOD Medicine) gave the inaugural speech and explained the importance of early diagnosis of arthritis and follow-up's so that effective treatment can be started and taking their help and support in their long journey to recovery. Dr. Varsha Bhatt (Professor of Medicine and Consultant Rheumatologist) gave an overview of the illness and the importance of treating it early and holistically. Dr. Abhishek Zanwar (Consultant Rheumatologist) emphasised the importance of consulting specialists in a timely fashion for better treatment outcomes. Dr. Mrs. Smita Karve (Clinical psychologist) spoke about how to cope with the chronicity of the disease and the high pill burden. Dr. Palekar (Professor of Physiotherapy), along with his students, gave an interactive talk about the importance of movement therapy and demonstrated simple exercises that could help reduce pain and stiffness. Dr. Vatsalaswamy (Director, IQAC), Dr. A. L. Kakrani (Director- Academic collaboration), eminent faculty members, research directors, administration directors, and nursing supervisors graced the event.
