Pune, 10th April 2023: Dr. D. Y. Patil Medical College, Hospital and Research Centre, Pune’s Organ Transplant Centre of Excellence has reached a momentous milestone in the field of medical science. A trusted and reputed name in organ transplant, the hospital recently got credited with a record-breaking organ transplant procedure involving a 19 year-old brain dead patient whose organs gave a new lease of life to five patients.

The success of this complex organ transplant surgery helped a 52 year-old male patient through Heart Transplant, a 39 year-old female patient through Lung Transplant, a 53 year-old male patient through Liver Transplant, a 35 year-old male through Kidney and Pancreas Transplant and a 47 year-old male through Kidney Transplant. The surgeries were successfully completed on the same day under one roof, marking a groundbreaking achievement for the institution and a major step forward in the field of medical science.

The Kidney, Liver and Pancreas transplants were led by Dr. Vrishali Patil – a renowned multi-organ transplant specialist, who is accredited with successfully performing the first simultaneous pancreas and kidney transplant in the state of Maharashtra, and her team of experts.

The Heart and Lung transplants were led by Dr. Sandeep Attawar – one of India’s most renowned cardiothoracic surgeons who is widely recognized for his expertise in performing complex heart surgeries in patients ranging from neonates to octogenarians, and his team of experts.
