Overview
IVF is the most common form of Assisted Reproductive Techniques (ART) and is used to treat a range of fertility problems. The entire process of fertilization takes place outside a woman’s body. During the IVF process, A woman’s eggs are surgically extracted from her ovaries via the egg collection procedure and fertilized with sperm in a laboratory culture dish. Once fertilized, the embryo is implanted into the woman’s womb.
IVF was originally developed for women with blocked tubes and it is still the procedure of choice for these situations. It is also used when other conditions are present, including endometriosis, male infertility, and unexplained infertility in which no medical cause for infertility can be found.
